Youngest of three brothers (Arthur, Wylie and Cliff) who served in WWII, Private Clifford Walter John Conroy (Service No:VX17166) enlisted with his brother Wylie (Service No:VX17162) in the AIF on 24 May 1940 with 7th Division AASC Supply Coy. Private Conroy served with 6 Coy AASC in the Middle East (18 October 1940 - 27 March 1942), New Guinea (14 August 1942 - 21 November 1942 and 10 October 1943 - 9 March 1944), and in Morotai (27 May 1945 - 4 September 1945) - and was WiA in New Guinea (GSW abdomen). Private Conroy was attached to 2/6 Australian General Transport (AGT) Coy at Discharge on 8 October 1945.
Cliff was born in Ararat, Victoria in 1919, youngest of seven children of Arthur John Conroy (b1886 at Mokepilly Station via Stawell, Victoria) and Adeline (Ada) May Hon (b1886 in Stawell, Victoria). Arthur and Ada married in 1909 in Ararat, where they settled and raised their family and Arthur was an Attendant at the Mental Asylum.
Cliff worked as a Car (Spray) Painter in Ararat before enlisting in the Army. In 1944 in Ararat he married Vera Margaret Turner (b1924 in Ararat, Victoria). Following his Discharge from the Army, he and Vera lived in Ararat before settling in Melbourne in the early 1950s. Cliff worked as a Car (Spray) Painter until his death in 1984. Vera died in 2010.
