Private William Joseph Dodds (Service No:WX12114) enlisted in the Army on 29 April 1941 and served with 2nd/11th Infantry Battalion in the Middle East (7 November 1941 - 28 March 1942), New Guinea (11 November 1944 - 26 October 1945), Morotai (26 October 1945 - 7 February 1946) and Japan (7 February 1946 - 28 February 1947). In 1945 Private Dodds completed a Stretcher Bearers' Course and served for a time with 2nd Field Ambulance. He was attached to 2nd/11th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 31 March 1947.
Born in 1920 at Yalgoo in the Geraldton region of WA, William was the eldest son of William Joseph Dodds Snr (b1891 in Albany, WA) and Mary Smith (b1902 in Geraldton, WA). William Snr (a Railways Worker) and Mary married in 1921 at Yalgoo, WA - William Snr had served in WWI (Service No:2029) and was awarded the Military Medal and a Mention in Despatches. William Snr and Mary settled in the Geraldton Region where they raised their family and William Snr worked for the Railways as a Repairer and Ganger in Wuragi, Bluff Point, Yalgoo, Cranbrook, Southern Cross, Kuminin, Goodwood, Scaddan and Three Springs.
William Jnr worked as a Labourer and was in Perth WA when he enlisted in the Army. Following his Discharge, William worked in Calingiri, WA as a Farmhand and by 1958 had married Doris Margaret Elizabeth Costello (b1916 in Albany WA) - Doris was an Actress. The couple were at Jingalup nr Katanning WA in 1958 where William was a Farmhand. William and Doris settled in Albany WA where William worked as a Labourer and Plant Operator. Doris died in 1977 and William in 1992.
