Son of Anders Vestergaard and Juliane Wilhelmine Vestergaard nee Rasmussen of 'Marrubium', Victor Street, Mackay, QLD
Brother of Sigvaid Asmus Vestergaard who 18 returned to Australia on 7 September 1919 having served with the 4 Squadron Australian Flying Corps
Anton had previously served with the Mackay Naval Brigade for three and a half years before being discharged due to unit being disbanded.
Commenced return to Australia on 18 January 1919 aboard HT Ulysses disembarking on 4 March 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Brisbane
