Henry James Docker enlisted as Henry Docker. He was the son of Henry James and Susan Docker of Coogee, NSW. His younger brother, 916 Pte. Norman Docker 3rd Battalion AIF was wounded at the Anzac landing before he was killed in action at Gallipoli on 11 October 1915, aged 22.
Henry was a school teacher prior to enlisting during May 1915. His father stated he had been presented with a wristlet watch by the officials of the state schools on the eve of his departure from Australia. He spent much of 1916 in Egypt before he was sent to the Western Front in early 1917 and served with the 6th Field Ambulance.
He was terribly wounded amongst the heavy shellfire of 4 October 1917, with multiple shrapnel wounds and compound fractures, dying of his wounds in the 44th Casualty Clearing Station on the same day.
