Private Francis Dallis McDonald (Service No:VX93794) enlisted in the Australian Army on 18 November 1943. Private McDonald served with 2/33 Infantry Battalion. An accidental sports injury was considered 'likely to impair his efficiency as a soldier' (National Archives Australia) and he was Discharged on 12 January 1947. Sister Sibyl served with the AWAS in WWII.

Born in 1924 in Melbourne Victoria, Frank was the youngest of two children of Dallas Athorn Crook (b1886 in Melbourne, Victoria) and second wife Violet Kathleen Clipperton (b1899 in Melbourne, Victoria). Dallas (a Labourer) and Violet married in 1922 in Melbourne and following Dallas' death in 1925 after a prolonged illness, Violet remarried in 1930 to Alexander James McDonald (b1882 in Eaglehawk, Victoria). The couple settled in Frankston where Alexander worked as a Labourer and Motor Driver. Frank and Sibyl took on their step-father's surname - McDonald.

Frank worked as a Labourer before his service in WWII and was a Labourer in Frankston in 1950 when he married Vivian Pearl Marsden (nee Ferguson; b1921 in Lancashire, England) - Vivian had immigrated in 1926 with her parents and siblings, arriving in Melbourne on board the Pakeha. Frank and Vivian settled in Frankston where Frank worked as a Truck Driver and Contractor. Vivian died in 1995 and Frank in 2015.
