Private Ernest Raymond Elder (Service No:N94078) served in the ACMF with 41 Infantry Battalion from 17 March 1941 to 6 January 1945.
Ray was born in South Grafton, New South Wales in 1920, second of three children of Adolphus (Dolphy) Earle Elder (b1888 in Armidale, New South Wales) and Grace Evelyn Waghorn (b1897 in Grafton, New South Wales). Dolphy and Grace married in 1917 in Grafton, where they settled and raised their family and Dolphy worked as a Labourer and Share Farmer.
Ray was a Labourer in Ulmarra in 1941 when he enlisted in the ACMF. Following his Discharge in 1946 he returned to Ulmarra, and in 1947 in Grafton married Audrey Claire Christensen (b1918 in Ballina, New South Wales). Ray and Audrey settled in Grafton, where they raised their family and Ray worked as a Labourer until his death (accidental drowning) in 1957. Audrey died in 1994.
