Ray's Life
Born 5th June 1294 in Melbourne Street, South Launceston to parents Leonard Gordon and Elizabeth May Summers. He was one of 12 siblings. In order; Lorna, Mattie, Henry, Jack, Leila, Raymond, Lola, Willis, Keitha, Josie, Geoffrey and Shirley.
The family moved to a two bedroom house in Edinburgh Street, Kings Meadows and this is where he grew up.
Ray completed year 5 at what was then Youngtown High School before leaving school to get a job and help provide for his family.
He was a glassier by trade specialising in stained glass windows or lead lights.
He married the love of his life Joyce Hilda Maud Martin and raised their two children Phillip and Jennifer. He is the proud grandfather of Natalie, Melissa, Nicholas and Matthew and proud great grandfather of Jasper, Sophia and Lylah.
He was an excellent golfer and won many Tasmanian championships. Mainly playing at Launceston Golf Club and Greens Beach Golf Club where he and Joyce had their family shack and enjoyed spending most weekends and summer holidays at with the children.
He has always been a family man who proudly did anything to help and support those he cares about. A true gentleman who adored his wife until she passed in 2019.
