Private Leonard Francis Buckley (Service No:WX22762) enlisted in the Australian Army on 15 February 1944 and was attached to 35 Infantry Training Battalion when he was Discharged on 1 December 1944.

Born in 1926 in Goomallin WA, Leonard was the second of nine children of Francis John Buckley (b1900 in Wongamine, WA) and Ethel Ellen Grace Moloney (b1901 in Goongarrie, WA). Francis (a Labourer with the WAGR) and Ethel married in 1924 in Wongan Hills, WA. Frances was admitted to the Subiaco Roman Catholic Oprphanage in 1911 following the death of his mother - younger brothers were sent to Clontarf Orphanage. Francis and Ethel lived in Wongan Hills, Boddington, Latham, Pinjarra and Fremantle while Francis worked as a Repairman for the WAGR. In the early 1940s the family settled in East Perth.

Leonard worked as a Labourer and was in the Army in July 1944 when he was charged with unlawful use of motor vehicles. Following his Discharge, Leonard worked intermittently in Perth as a Labourer and served numerous sentences at Boggo Road and Wyalkatchem Gaols for offences including swearing at a police officer, stealinig, breaking and entering, robbery with violence and assault. By the mid 1950's Leonard was working as a Driver in Parth, and also worked as a kitchenman and assistant. Leonard died in 2017.
