Mr. Denmeade will receive a silver medal and certificate for his brave efforts to save the life of a young man named Conlon at Sans Souci last January. They were at a picnic together, when Conlon, In attempting to pick up a hat which had fallen into the bay. fell overboard from the boat In which they were. Denmeade went to the assistance of his friend, but the latter, being a very powerful fellow, overpowered him, and he was unable to effect the rescue so gallantly attempted. He was picked up by another boat in a semi-conscious condition. - 23 August 1902

MR. J.M. DENMEADE.
Mr James M Denmeade for many years a secretary to the Rosehill and Wollongong Race clubs died in the Sacred Heart Hospice Darlinghurst last Thursday after a long and painful illness. The deceased served in the great war as a member of the Camel Corps and it was while on service in Palestine that he contracted the illness which finally caused his death. After a short service at St. Francis' Church Paddington the interment took place on Friday in the Roman Catholic section of the Rookwood Cemetery. The principal mourners were-The deceased's widow and son Messrs O and T Denmende (brothers) T and J O'Mara and J Kenny, sen (uncles) Mrs J Keeshan (aunt).
