A Life to be admired
Ted lived at Spencer in the Hawkesbury River area of Sydney & when he was 9 years old he was sent to a chicken farm to work.
One of the couples there took him under their wing (Mr & Mrs Markwell) and he was sent to night school to learn how to read & write.
He left this farm to enlist in the Army in WW2, first with the CMF (1 ART Battalion) and later with the Regular Army - 65th Infantry Battalion & 2nd/12th Infantry Battalion.
He served in the Northern New Guinea area and in Borneo and Morotai.
After the war he worked as a tram cleaner & then worked for the NSW Railways as a fireman and worked his way up to acting driver - he got his licence on the famous steam engine 3801 and also drove electric trains and took the first XPT trains to demonstrate them to the Public - later he taught others how to drive trains including the 1st lady driver in NSW.
He was very well respected in his working life & was a loving Father to his 4 children and many grandchildren.
