Gunner Leonard Edward Johnson (Service No:NX53882) served in the Army with 3 Anti Tank Regiment from 29 July 1940 to 8 September 1941 and was Discharged as Medically Unfit. Gunner Johnson served in the Middle East from 11 November 1940 to 8 May 1941.
Born in 1912 in Sydney NSW, Leonard was the second of three children of Leonard Edwin Eckberg Johnson (b1886 in Moruya, NSW) and Helena May Davies (b1889 at Port Stephens, NSW). Leonard Snr (a Tea Merchant) and Helena married in 1909 in Sydney, NSW, where they settled and raised their family and Leonard Snr was a Tea Merchant.
Leonard was working as a Traveller in 1939 in Sydney when he married Laurette (Loretta) Isle Leighton (b abt 1920). Following his Discharge in 1941, Leonard and Laurette settled in Sydney where they raised their family and Leonard resumed work as a Traveller for his business - Leonard Johnson & Sons, Cash Orders and Cash Loans. Leonard died in 1975 and Laurette in 1997.
