Sergeant Frank William Ludwick (Service No:QX1651) enlisted in the AIF on 13 May 1940 - graded Cook - and served with 2/2 Australian Tank Attack Regiment in the Middle East (18 October 1940 - 21 January 1942), New Guinea (19 October 1943 - 28 October 1943) and Borneo (29 May 1945 - 3 September 1945). Sergeant Ludwick was attached to 2/2 Tank Attack Regiment at Discharge on 21 September 1945. His father Alexander (Private; Service No:1230) served in WWI and brother Alex (Private; Service No:V84758) served in WWII.
Born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1910, Francis (Frank) was fifth of nine children (five survived beyond childhood) of Alexander Henry Ludwick (b1881 in Benalla, Victoria) and his first wife Esther Jessie Orr Moffatt (b1881 in Costerfield, Bendigo, Victoria). Alexander (a Labourer) and Esther married in 1902 in Benalla, and settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Alexander was a Labourer and General Dealer. Alexander served in the AIF in 1915/1916, and following Ester's death in 1916, Alexander was a Widower with six children when he remarried in 1920. Alexander worked in Melbourne as a Labourer.
Frank started work in Ferntree Gully nr Melbourne, and was a Labourer in 1935 when he married Elsie May Chellew (b1913 in Cheltenham, Victoria). Frank and Elsie moved to North Queensland in 1936, settling in Ingham, where Frank was a Labourer when he enlisted in the Army in 1940. Following his Discharge, Frank and Elsie settled in Tully, QLD where they raised their family and Frank worked for the Railways as a Ganger and Fettler. Frank died in 1982 and Elsie in 1990.
