Keith Joseph Check was the fifth child and third son of Frank Check, a hairdresser, and his wife Helena Bray of Pyrmont in Sydney. The family lived in Harris Street above the hairdressing shop.
After Keith's mother died when he was 12, the family moved to Coogee.
Keith enlisted in the Citizen's Military Force in WW2 and later enlisted in the 2nd AIF. He served as a Gunner and Gun Layer in the Northern Territory with the 55 Composite Anti Aircraft Regiment.
After the war Keith's unit was demobilised and he was discharged.
Keith worked as a hairdresser the same as his father and older sister.
On 6 November 1948 Keith married Patricia Helen Moloney in Sydney. They raised four children together at Maroubra, where Keith later died at the age of 90.
