Younger of two brothers (Frank and Alfred) who served in WWII, Private Alfred George Brownhill (Service No:V509118) served in the ACMF (22 January 1942 - 10 December 1943) with 1st Australian Army Service Corps Training Battalion (AASC).

ALfred was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1914, youngest of six children of Frederick (Fred) Alfred Brownhill (b1883 in Collingwood, Victoria) and Elsie May Brown (b1885 in Melbourne, Victoria). Fred (a Bootmaker) and Elsie married in 1904 in Melbourne, where they settled and raised their family, Fred worked as a Bootmaker, then as a Driver and as a Petrol Pump Attendant.

Alfred started work as a Labourer, and was a Truck Driver in Melbourne in 1939 when he married Millicent (Millie) Violet Rose Lee (b1918 in Melbourne, Victoria). Alfred and Millie settled in Melbourne, and Alfred was a Truck Driver in 1942 when he enlisted in the Army. Alfred and Millie remained in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Alfred worked as a Truck Driver/Carrier, as a Checker and then as Foreman. Alfred died in 2005 and Millie died in 2008.
