He was 27 and the son of William John and Louie Thomas.
He is honoured on the Kingsbridge War Memorial, the town of his birth in Devon, England.

He worked a farm on his own at Chambercombe before he left for Australia.
He is also honoured on the Ilfracombe War Memorials.

He is one of two Australian soldier casualties of the Great War who are honoured on both Ilfracombe War Memorials - the other being Private Jack Sanders, Service Number 2874, of the 36th Battalion, Australian Jnfantry. Son of Mrs. Ethel Symons of 8 Wilder Road and the late George Sanders, late of High Street, Ilfracombe. Born in Ilfracombe. Died 12 October 1917 aged 21.

This memorial is Grade II protected, and listed on the National Heritage List for England maintained by Historic England.

North Devon, Devon, EX34 8BL, England.
Bronze figure of Victory surmounting a Tuscan column and granite plinth, on a two stepped base. There are brass plaques with names for the First World War on the sides of the plinth, and the main dedication is laid with lead lettering on the front face of the upper base.
He had served for 6 years in the North Devon Imperial Yeomanry.
He also saw service at Rabaulin 1914 and 1915.
His father was deceased; his mother, Mrs. Hunt lived at Thornton Heath, Surrey. His sister M.D. Thomas also lived there.
His brother, Alick N.Thomas lived in Gladesville, NSW, Australia.
