William Jnr was the son of William Hampton (b1871 in NSW) and Matilda Jane Harper (b1875 in Annandale, Victoria). William (a Contractor/Miner) and Matilda married in Boulder WA in 1905 and lived in the Kalgoorlie Region - Mt Margaret, Mt Leonora, Boulder - before moving to Wagin in 1911. William worked as a Contractor in Wagin before moving to Dowerin in the 1930s - Matilda moved to Perth WA, where William joined her in the late 1930s.
William Jnr worked as a Labourer in Northam WA and was in Perth in 1935 when he married Madge Elsie Emma O'Leary (b1908 in Devonport, Tasmania). Madge had come to Marrinup Mill WA with her parents around 1910, and was working in Perth WA as a Typist. William and Madge lived in Northam and Perth, where William worked as a Labourer and Marine Dealer.
William was a Truck Driver in 1940 when he enlisted in the ACMF (Sapper; Service No:W5329) and served with 55 AA Coy RAE before enlisting in the AIF on 22 August 1942. William (Gunner; Service No:WX27031) served in New Guinea and was attached to 78 Anti Aircraft Search Light Coy when he was Discharged in October 1944.
Following his Discharge, William returned to Perth WA where he worked as a Mechanic. Following Madge's death in 1954, William remarried Ethel May (b1908) in 1956. He and Ethel settled in Mt Hawthorne and William worked as a Truck Driver. Ethel died in 1979 and William in 1985.
