Corporal Jean Zoe McMahon (Service No:VF512051) enlisted in the Army on 10 July 1943 as a Private - graded Canteen Attendant. Corporal McMahon was attached to 1 Australian Army Canteen Service (AACS) Women's Club at Discharge on 7 November 1945.
Jean was born in 1921 in Hobart, Tasmania, second child of Christopher (Chris) Carns (b1885 at Adventure Bay, Tasmania) and Daisy Della Russell (b1894 in Hobart, Tasmania). Chris (a Labourer) and Daisy married in Hobart in Tasmania, and lived in New Zealand before returning to Tasmania in 1920. Chris and Daisy lived in Denison and Moonah in Tasmania -Chris worked as a Labourer - before settling in Melbourne in 1928.
Jean was living in Melbourne in 1940 when she married Francis George Temple (b1917 in Burnley, Victoria) and, following their Divorce, remarried in 1945 to Hubert (Jim) James McMahon (b1921 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Jim was serving in the RAAF. Following Discharge, Jean and Jim settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Jim was a Hatter. In Census Records, Jean described her employment status as 'AWAS' until the late 1960s, and in 1972 was a Waitress. Jean died in 1991 and Jim in 2005.
