Biography

Austin Raymond VEITCH was born on 19th February, 1897 in Batemans Bay, NSW

His parents were Albert Sydney VEITCH and Eliza BACKHOUSE

He had previous service in the Senior Cadets, 4 years Militia - 37th Infantry before he enlisted on 25th April, 1918 with the Australian Army - he was in the NSW 7th Reinforcements - Unit embarked from Sydney on SS Feldmarschall (SS Field Marshall) on 19th June, 1918

He returned to Australia on the ship Argyllshire and disembarked on 22th August, 1919.   He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal

He married Theresa ROOTSEY in 1924 - one daughter Shirley

Austin died on 26th August, 1931 in Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick, Sydney and is buried in Waverley Cemetery
