Private Marion Robertson Gronbeck (Service Nos:V18669/VfX64867) enlisted in the Army (VAD HQ) on 5 August 1941 and was attached to 105 Australian General Hospital (AGH) - graded as Nursing Orderly. Private Gronbeck served in the Middle East (2 November 1941 - 24 January 1943) with 1st, 6th and 7th Australian General Hospitals. In 1943 Private Gronbeck was attached to 2/6th Australian General Hospital and served in Morotai and Labuan (10 July 1945 - 29 December 1945). Private Gronbeck was attached to 106 Australian General Hospital (AGH) Bonegilla at Discharge on 27 August 1946.
May was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1911, third of five children of William Alexander Gronbeck (b1881 in Glasgow, Scotland) and Marion Johnstone (b1882 in Glasgow, Scotland). William was a Yarn Warper in 1904 when he and Marion married in Glasgow, where they lived until immigrating to Melbourne, Victoria in 1912. William worked as a Winding Master at the Mills in Collingwood before enlisting in the AIF in 1916. Following his Discharge, he amd Marion settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and William worked as a Mechanic's Apprentice and Mechanic.
May worked as a Machinist in Brighton, Melbourne before enlisting in 1941. Following her Discharge, she worked in Melbourne as a Hospital Assistant with the Repatriation Department, and in 1954 married John (Jack) Christopher Richardson (b1905 in Aberfeldy, Victoria) - Jack had served in the Army (Private; Service No:VX36333) and had been a PoW. He was a Driver in Melbourne in 1954. May and Jack lived at Menzies Creek and Shelbrook - May worked as a Nurse - before returning to Melbourne in the mid 1970s. Jack died in 1986 and May in 1994
