Craftsman Albert Ernest Kuhnell (Service No:VX91555) initially served with the ACMF as a Private (Service No:V56478) with 32 Infantry Battalion from 16 August 1940 to 13 April 1942. He enlisted in the AIF as a Private on 24 February 1943 and was attached to 2ACTR and AACRSTU before transferring as Craftsman to 2nd/7th Advanced Workshops on 1 October 1943. Craftsman Kuhnell served in New Guinea (17 October 1943 - 30 June 1944) and was attached to 2nd/7th Advanced Workshops at Discharge on 6 December 1944.
Born in 1917 in Melbourne Victoria, Bert was third of eight children of Charles Rudolph Kuhnell (b1880 in Malmsbury, Victoria) and Henrietta Rebecca Smith (b1895 in Neerim, Victoria) Charles (a Labourer) and Henrietta married in 1914 in Melbourne, Victoria where they settled and raised their family and Charles worked as a Labourer. Four of their sons - Ron, Gordon, Bert and Lindsay - and daughter Rita served in WWII.
Bert worked as a Labourer in Melbourne, where in 1943 he married Alexina (Allie) Graham (b1921 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Allie was working as a Finisher in Footscray. Following his Discharge in 1944, Bert and Allie settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Bert worked as a Merchant until the mid 1970s when he worked as a Lineman. Bert and Allie retired to Geelong, where Bert died in 2006 and Allie in 2013.
