Private Alexander Robert Rose (Service No:WX8182) enlisted in the Army on 16 August 1940 and was attached to No 2 Infantry Training Battalion (Trade Grouping - Driver Mechanic). Posted to 2nd/16th Infantry Battalion, Private Rose served in the Middle East (5 July 1941 - 26 March 1942), where he served briefly with 2 Machine Gun Battalion. Private Rose then completed two tours in New Guinea (12 June 1942 - 14 March 1943 with 2nd/16th Infantry Battalion; and 30 July 1943 - 12 March 1944 with 7 Carrier Coy). Re-posted to 2nd/16th Infantry Battalion, Private Rose served in Morotai and Balikapan (2 June 1945 - 13 November 1945) and was Discharged on 27 November 1945.

Born in 1915 in Pingelly WA, Alex was third of five children of Richard (Richie) John Loveday Rose (b1878 at Reedbeds, South Australia) and Phoebe Ann Edwards (b1884 in Devon, England). Phoebe, a Domestic Servant, immigrated in 1910, arriving in Albany WA on board the SS Rimutaka. Richie had served in the Boer War (Trooper; Service No:205) and had worked as a Labourer and with horses, In 1906 Richie was in Western Australia, working as a Possum and Kangaroo Shooter at Tambrey Station via Coolgardie before securing land at Pingelly. Richie (a Farmer) and Phoebe married in 1911 in Beverley, WA and settled at Pingelly where they raised their family and Richie was a Farmer. Following Phoebe's death in 1919, Richie continued working on the farm and the four surviving children were raised in Church Schools.

Alex worked as a Station Hand at Exmouth Gulf Station in WA prior to enlisting in the AIF. Following his Discharge, he settled in Roebourne, WA where he worked as a Truck Driver and, in 1951 met Doris Victoria Hennessy (nee Truran; b1917 in Fremantle, WA). Alex and Doris married in 1955 and lived in Roebourne, where Alex was a Truck Driver. Alex and Doris both died in 1986 - Doris in February and Alex in July.
