Keith was the youngest child of Charles Lindsay Campbell (b1863 in Sussex, England) and Lilian Maud Bennett (b1884 in Melbourne, Victoria). Charles (an Inquiry Officer/Inspector for the WA Government) and Lillian married in 1905 in Melbourne, Victoria. Charles was a pioneer aviator and in 1910 was instrumental in forming the QLD Aero Club in Brisbane. He promoted his designs and inventions on the East Coast, and in 1911 was Director of the NSW Aero School. In January 1912 he took his wife and family to England and was awarded his Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate on 4 June 1912 at The Bristol School, Salisbury Plain. On the morning of 3 August 1912 the engine on the Bristol monoplane he was flying stopped, the plane fell and Charles was killed. An appeal for funds was established to return his destitute wife and children to Australia. Lilian and the children returned to Fremantle in November 1912.
Keith was a Machinist in Perth WA when he married Helena (Lena) May Carhtew (b1912 in Perth, WA) in 1930. The couple settled in Perth where Keith was working as a Fitter and Turner when he enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:W94407) in January 1943. Keith had a number of offences recorded (AWOL, Drunk) and was Court Martialled in November 1943 (Drunk). He was attached to 2 Electrical and Mechanical Engineers when he was Discharged in February 1944.
