My Dad
Walter Robert Stephen fought in two campaigns during World War 2. The first was in the Middle East against the German army, until Australian troops were called home to fight the Japanese army which was in the process of mounting an invasion of Australia. Dad fought in the Owen Stanley Ranges in New Guinea until the end of his life at 82. Approximately 10 years after the end of the war, Dad had a complete nervous breakdown as a result of what he lived through during the war, that saw him spend nearly a year in recovery. When he was better, Dad spent much of his spare time working for Legacy, providing support for widows and their children until near the end of his life. I am so proud of him and thank him and others like him for fighting for our freedom.
