Corporal Harold Baird (Service No:WX31215) initially served in the ACMF (Service No:W45942) with 10 Garrison Battalion (Rottnest) from 23 March 1942 before enlisting in the AIF on 23 July 1942. Corporal Baird was attached to 14 Infantry Training Battalion and on 25 November 1944 was with 11 Infantry Battalion when he embarked with his Unit from Darwin NT for Jacquinot Bay on board USAT Jane Adams. On 4 May 1945 Corporal Baird embarked from Jacquinot Bay for Finschafen on board the James Clements en route for Australia. He was attached to 11 Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 23 November 1945.

Harry was born in Kalgoorlie, WA in 1908, fourth of six children of John (Jock) Thomas Baird (b1872 in Kyneton, Victoria) and Mabel May Strongman (b1878 at Grace Plains, South Australia). Jock was a Telegraphist in 1900 when he and Mabel married in Norseman, WA. Jock worked as a Telegraphist/Telegraph Operator and he and May lived Kalgoorlie and Bunbury before settling in Perth in 1915. 

Harry worked in Perth as a Warehouseman for ES Lazarus & Co, where he was Chairman of the Staff Social Committee. In 1939 he married Lorna Freda Morris (b1909 in Broken Hill, NSW) - Lorna was a Dressmaker in Perth. Harry and Lorna moved to Kalgoorlie where Harry was a Commercial Traveller when he enlisted in the Army in 1942. Following his Discharge, he and Lorna moved to Kendenup via Albany, WA where Harry was a Labourer. In 1950 Harry was allocated a wheat and sheep farm in Kendenup under the War Service Land Settlement Scheme. Harry and Lorna settled in Kendenup where they raised their family and Harry was a Farmer, and involved in community service - he was Honorary Secretary of the Spastic Wlefare Assn Mt Barker District. Harry died in 1974 and Lorna in 1999.
