Douglas Jnr was the second of six children of Douglas Henry Caporn (b1896 in Roebourne, WA) and his second wife Ivy May Clarke (nee Fox; b1901 in Perth, WA). Douglas Snr was a Horse Breaker and Trainer and in 1916 enlisted in the AIF (Private; 7/48 Infantry Battalion) - he was Discharged within a couple of weeks because of defective eyesight (caused by 'sandy blight'). Following a Divorce from his first wife, Douglas (a Labourer) and Ivy married in 1921 in Perth, WA where they settled and raised their family. Douglas Snr was a Labourer and Horse Breaker.
Douglas Jnr worked as a Horse Breaker in Perth WA and a Bridge Carpenter at Pine River, Batchelor in the NT before enlisting in the ACMF in April 1944. He was a Private (Service No:W3199) attached to 13 Infantry Training Coy when he was Discharged later that year - he had numerous charges for being AWoL and on 17 June 1944 was sentenced to 15 months Detention and Discharged '.... by reason of numerous convictions he is deemed to be incorrigible' (National Archives Australia).
Returning to Perth WA, Douglas was a Truck Driver in 1949 when he married Grace Margaret Mitchell (nee Howson; b1921 in Perth, WA). The couple lived in Perth, Carnarvon and Geraldton where Douglas died in 2002. Grace had died in 1989.
