Gunner Wheeler was the son of Mrs E Wheeler, Pennox Vale, Belfast, Ireland.

Returned to Australia 4 May 1917
He was a member of an Irish family whose many sons served in the Great War. They are commemorated on the Wheeler Roll of Honour maintained in Rathmullan House, Rathmullan, County Donegal.
