Biography contributed by Peter Sunners

The Argus,Saturday 2 February 1918

TIDD-WHIMPEY.-A tribute to the memory of Pte. George Tidd, officially reported killed in action, May 3, 1917: also, on same day, Pte. Claude Whimpey, beloved nephew of Mrs. Oldroyd, and dear cousins of Mrs. B. J. Davies, Fermanagh road, Camberwell.

TIDD.- A tribute of love to the memory of my dear husband, Private George H. Tidd, 23rd Battalion (previously reported wounded and missing), now reported killed in action at Bullecourt, May 3, 1917, aged 26 years.
Just when his hopes were best, Just when his life was brightest, His country called: he answered; Now in God's hands he rests.
- (Inserted by his loving wife, F. E. Tidd, Woodstock West.)

TIDD.- In loving remembrance of our dear son and brother, Pte. George Horace Tidd, killed in action at Bullecourt, 3rd May, 1917, beloved son of C. and J. Tidd, Eastville, loved brother of David Gunner William Tidd (1st A.I.F., killed in action, Gallipoli), Arthur (A.I.F.), Frank, and Albert.
Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. Home at last thy labour done,
Safe and blest, the victory won; Jordan past, from pain set free,
Angels now have welcomed thee.

TIDD.- In fond memory of our dear son and brother-in-law, Pte. G. H. Tidd, killed in action in France, May 3, 1917.
Always happy and cheerful,
With a heart that knew no fear, He went to face life's battle
For all he loved so dear.
-(Inserted by Mr. and Mrs. D. Anderson and family; Les., A.I.F.)

TIDD.- In loving memory of our dearly beloved grandson and nephew, Pte. George Horace Tidd, killed in action at Bullecourt, May 3, 1917.
Honour and glory he has earned,
Wealth and comfort he had spurned, To give his life at duty's call. Beloved by comrades, one and all.
With Christ, which is far better.
When earth's songs have all been sung, Labour ended, trials done:
"We'll meet again," oh, happy word, And be "for ever with the Lord."
- (Inserted by his loving grandma and auntie, R. and E. Tidd, 29 High street, Northcote.)
