Craftsman Thomas Allan Sutherland (Service No:V59237) enlisted in the ACMF on 19 August 1940 as a Private. He served with 23/21 Battalion and with 1 Australian Vehicle Park Workshop and 10 Advanced Workshop AEME in Darwin NT (1 May 1942 to 8 April 1944). Craftsman Sutherland was attached to 23/21 Infantry at Discharge on 30 October 1945.

Born in 1917 in Camperdown Victoria, Tom was the eldest child of Thomas Sutherland Snr (b1887 at Numurkah nr Shepparton, Victoria) and Janie Dwyer (b1895 in Camperdown, Victoria) Thomas Snr (a Labourer) and Janie married in 1916 in Camperdown where they settled and raised their family. Thomas was a Labourer before he and Janie settled in Geelong in the late 1920s where he worked as a Greenkeeper.

Tom worked as a Factory Hand in Birregurra, and in 1942 in Camperdown, Victoria he married Gertrude (Gertie) Ellen Spearing (b1919 in Camperdown, Victoria). Following Tom's discharge in 1945, he and Gertie settled in Geelong where Tom worked as a Storeman. Tom died in 2002 and Gertie in 2017.
