Private Allan Leonard Gardiner (Service No:W22502) served in the ACMF with 28th Battalion and 14 Anti Aircraft Battery from 1 May 1941 to 24 June 1943 and was attached to 2 Anti Aircraft Battery at Discharge. Three siblings (Bill, Joe and Walter) also served in WWII.
Born in 1914 in Waroona, QLD (registered as Leonard Allan), Allan was the third of four children of Wilfred (Will) Hardy Gardiner (b1885 in Drouin, Gippsland, Victoria) and Ethel Hannah May Davies (b1886 in Portland, Victoria). Will (a Sleeper Hewer) and Ethel married in Perth, WA in 1906 and lived at Nine Mile Camp Swan, Kalgoorlie and Waroona where Will was a Sleeper Hewer before enlisting in the AIF in 1915. Following his Discharge in 1919 in Melbourne Victoria, Will and his family lived in Melbourne where Will worked as a Postal Employee and Tram Driver until the mid 1920s when they returned to Perth. Will worked as a Labourer in Perth until the early 1930s when he returned to Victoria, settling at Lakes Entrance where he was a Farmer. Ethel and the children remained in Perth.
Allan worked as a Farmer in East Perth and was a Barman/Steward in 1941 when he enlisted in the ACMF. He was a Barman in Sawyers Valley in 1943 before settling in Northam where he worked as a Storekeeper and Storeman. Allan died in Yokine in 1993.
