Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board

Charles EZZY (Service Number 3059) was born at Hamilton, NSW, in 1888. He appears to have grown up in Moree, where his parents made a home, and ‘was an enthusiastic member of the Moree Band’. He joined the NSWGR as an engine cleaner at the Junee locomotive depot in December 1912 and was promoted there to fireman in 1913. In August 1915 he enlisted in the AIF in Sydney.

He was killed in action on 26 September 1917 at Polygon Wood. He has no known grave but is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

Charles EZZY (Service Number 3059) was born at Hamilton, NSW, in 1888.  He grew up in Moree, where his parents made a home,  He was an enthusiastic member of the Moree Band’.  He joined the NSW Government Railways as an engine cleaner at the Junee locomotive depot in December 1912. He was promoted there to fireman in 1913.  In August 1915 he enlisted in the AIF in Sydney.

He embarked at Sydney in December 1915. He joined his battalion in Egypt. He went to France in June 1916.  He was evacuated, sick, to England in November. He spent some time being treated for ‘debility’ and venereal disease before returning to France in February 1917. He re-joined his unit in April. 

He was killed in action on 26th September 1917 at Polygon Wood.  He has no known grave but is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
