Died on this date – 14th March …… Percy Francis Williams was born at Fitzroy, Melbourne, Victoria to parents Edward and Mary Ann Charlotte Williams (nee Beddison).  His birth is listed on Victorian Births, Deaths & Marriages website as being registered in 1883 in the district of Fitzroy, Victoria. Percy Francis Williams was baptised, along with 2 other siblings, at St. Peter’s Church, Eastern Hill, Victoria on 25th February, 1887. (Note: From the Baptismal register his date of birth is listed as 17th August, 1884)

He enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 28th April, 1916 as a 32 year old, single, Photographer from Bunyip, Victoria.

While in Camp in Australia, Private Williams had been admitted to Royal Park Hospital on 14th September, 1916 & transferred the same day to No. 5 General Hospital with _____ Abscess. He was discharged on 10th October, 1916 & transferred to Rest Camp Macleod until 17th October, 1916.

Private Percy Francis Williams, Service number 7099, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on HMAT Hororata (A20) on 23 November, 1916 with the 6th Infantry Battalion, 23rd Reinforcements & disembarked at Plymouth, England on 29th January, 1917.

Reinforcements were only given basic training in Australia. Training was completed in training units in England. Some of these were located in the Salisbury Plain & surrounding areas in the county of Wiltshire.

On 26th February, 1917 Private Williams was sent sick to Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire from 2nd Training Battalion, Durrington, Wiltshire with Bronchitis & reported seriously ill with Broncho Pneumonia on 28th February, 1917.

 

Private Percy Francis Williams died at 10.45 p.m. on 14th March, 1917 at Fargo Military Hospital, Wiltshire, England from Broncho Pneumonia.

He was buried in Durrington Cemetery, Wiltshire, England where 140 other WW1 Australia War Graves are located.
