Son of Mr and Mrs Eliza Brisbane of Croydon Rd Keswick,  Cleve married shortly after enlistment.  His wife Marion's address was listed as 46 Carlton Parade Torrensville.

Cleve Brisbane was enlisted  into the 14th Reinforcements of the 27th Battalion and went into camp at the Exhibition Grounds Camp and then to Mitcham Camp.  He trained as a signaller.  He embarked on the HMAT Ballarat on the 12th August 1916.

Cleve Brisbane was taken on Strength by the 27th Battalion after completion of training in the UK, in January 1917.

He subsequently served in France for the remainder of the war with a short period of hospitalisation follwing an injury, in England in February / March 1918.

He embarked for Australia on the HT Ypiringa in May 1919.  While at sea he developed inlammation of the heart resulting in him being disembarked as a stretcher case.  Officially diagnosed as endarcititis his condition deteriorated and he died in Keswick Military Hospital on the 26th July 1919. with his wife in attendance  He was deemed to have died in service and his wife was subsequently presented his Commemorative Plaque.
