Private Albert Edward Tong (Service No:V514665) served in the ACMF from 30 November 1943 to 14 March 1944. Private Tong served with 2 Artillery Battalion and was Discharged as Medically Unfit.
Born in 1925 in Melbourne Victoria, ALbert was the eldest of four children (and only son) of Albert William Tong (b1900 in Kent, England) and Rose Annie Elizabeth Sutton (b1897 in Sussex, England). Albert Snr served in the Royal Navy in WWI and worked as a Laboratory Assistant in Kent. He immigrated in 1922, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the Osterley. Rose was a Cook in Kent when she immigrated in 1924, arriving in Melbourne, Victoria on board the Ormonde. Albert Snr (a Stoker) and Rose married in 1924 in Melbourne where they settled and raised their family and Albert Snr worked as a Wood Machinist. In the mid 1930s Albert Snr and Rose moved to Geelong, Victoria where Albert worked as a Wood Machinist and, following Rose's death in 1939, returned to Melbourne where he was a Munitions Worker.
Albert was a Process Worker in Melbourne when he enlisted in the ACMF and, following his Discharge lived in Geelong where he worked as a Driver and, in 1949, married Winifred Alice Kuhnell (b1928 in Melbourne, Victoria). Albert and Winifred moved to Melbourne in the early 1950s and Albert worked as a Labourer, Assistant and Storeman. Following Winifred's death in 1975, Albert moved to Hervey Bay, QLD, where he worked as a Driver. Albert was living in Hervey Bay in 1988 when he wrote to the Army Records Office requesting copies of his Discharge Papers and Medal (NAA).
