Private Leonard Thomas Murphy (Service No:VX100393) initially served in the ACMF (Sapper; Service No:V53265) with 6 Field Coy RAE (8 September 1941 - 3 September 1942) before Discharging to enlist 'in the filed' in the AIF on 6 September 1942 with 7 Australian Army Fort Coy. Sapper Murphy served with 3 Battalion RAE and 96 and 30 Mobile Cinema Units, and was attached to 2/11 Army Transport Coy at Discharge on 22 August 1945.

Len was born in Ballarat, Victoria in 1919 to Thomas Murphy (b1895 in Little Bendigo, Victoria) and Grace Victoria Floate (b1897 in Melbourne, Victoria). Thomas was a Groom in Ballarat in 1918 when he and Grace married. They settled in Ballarat where they raised their family and Thomas worked as a Groom and Labourer.

Len worked in Ballarat as a Transport Driver  and in 1944 married Elsa Merline Lacy (b1923 in Warracknabeal, Victoria). Following his Discharge, Len and Elsa settled in Ballarat where they raised their family and Len worked as a Driver. Len died in 1999 and Elsa in 2005.
