Edward Pownall's portrait was recently found amongst the belongings of a close friend who recently passed away. It was posted on Facebook "Friends of Noble Park" to see if any family remained. No one could be found and the photo will be sent to the Noble Park RSL.
He emigrated to Australia from England with his parents as a small child and lived with his parents throughout his life apart from military service. He enlisted in 1940 his trade listed as motor mechanic.
He trained as an armourer in the Australian Service Corps and was deployed to the Middle East, Ceylon, Papua New Guinea and Morotai, reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant in August 1944.
He was discharged on compassionate grounds in July 1945 possibly due to the death of his father Herbert in late 1944, returning to live with his mother until his death in 1983.
