Bombardier Norman John Lloyd Wells (Service Nos:W54780/WX27186) initially served in the ACMF as a Private (12 May 1942 - 21 July 1942), and was attached to 55 Anti Aircraft Coy as a Sapper when he enlisted in the AIF on 22 July 1942. Sapper Wells served with 78 Australian Mobile Search Light Coy RAE in New Guinea (Milne Bay) from 4 April 1943 to 17 March 1944. Promoted to Bombardier on 8 August 1944, he was attached to 78 Mobile Search Light Coy RAE at Discharge on 7 November 1945.

Norman was born in Collie, Western Australia in 1911, fourth of five children of Herbert Edward Wells (b1879 at Durham Lead, Ballarat, Victoria) and Phillipa Mary Catherine Bayley (b1879 at Cross Roads, Daly, South Australia). Herbert arrived in Western Australia in 1895, and worked in Fremantle, the Murchison and Coolgaride as a Miner and Bootmaker. He and Phillipa married in Coolgardie in 1900, and settled in Collie where they raised their family and Herbert was a Bootmaker, Salesman and Auctioneer. Herbert served in the AIF in WWI (Quarter Master/Hon Captain) and, following his Discharge, he and Phillipa settled in Perth. Herbert was an Auctioneer and Agent, and Politician, and was involved in his community - Justice of the Peace/Commissioner for Peace; Member and Chair of Collie Road Board, Mayor of Collie, Councillor for Victoria Park, Member of Parliament and member and President of the  Victoria Park Sub Branch of the RSL - and also as a member of the RSL State Executive.

Norman worked as an Auctioneer in Perth, where in 1940 he married Irene Ada Tychsen (b1911 in Perth, Western Australia) - Irene was working as a Shop Assistant. Following his Discharge from the Army in 1945, Norman and Irene settled in South Perth, where they raised their family and Norman was an Auctioneer until his death in 1972. Irene died in 2004.
