Private Joan Agnes Walsh (Service No:WF42076) enlisted in the AWAS on 15 December 1944 with 6 AWAS - graded Storekeeper. Private Walsh was attached to 7 Australian Ordnance Depot at Discharge on 11 April 1946.
Joan was born in Boulder, Western Australia in 1921, fifth of six children of Maurice Walsh (b1883 in Pyalong, Mernda, Victoria) and Emily Gertrude Hickey (b1888 in Clunes, Victoria). Maurice was a Labourer in Pyalong before moving to the Western Australian Goldfields, where he was a Miner in 1910 when he and Emily married in Boulder. Maurice and Emily livied in the Goldfields - Boulder, Kalgoorlie, Ora Banda via Menzies, Coolgardie - where they raised their family and Maurice was a Miner, Millman and Amalgamator at the State Battery. In the early 1940s Maurice and Emily moved to Perth, where Maurice worked as a Fitter.
Joan was a Hairdresser in Perth in 1944 when she enlisted in the AWAS, and in 1949 in Claremont, Fremantle married Michael (Mick) Mannix O'Sullivan (b1919 in Bunbury, Western Australia) - Mick was a Truck Driver in Manjimup before enlisting in the Army (Private; Service Nos:W25672/WX32149). Joan and Mick settled in Perth, where they raised their family and Mick was a Shop Assistant. Mick died in 1992 and Joan in 2001.
