The fifth of six children, Phyllis was born in 1921 in Bunbury WA. Her parents (James Robert Long Morrish (b1878 in Portsea Island, England) and Florrie Julia Roberts (b1880 in Durban, South Africa) married in 1903 in Lower Ugemi, South Africa and emigrated in 1904, arriving in Albany WA on board the Runic. James - a Platelayer when he emigrated - worked in Albany, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie and Narrogin as a Plate Layer for the WAGR.
Phyllis was working in Narrogin WA as a Launderess in 1943 when she enlisted in the AWAS (Private; Service No:WF94523). Phyllis was attached to 7 Advanced Ordnance Depot when she was Discharged in March 1946. Brother James (Service No:WX7811) also served in WWII.
In 1947 Phyllis married William (Bluey) Thomas Howson (b1923 in Collie WA) - Bluey also served in WWII (Service No:WX25618). Phyllis and Bluey lived in Narrogin and Perth WA where Bluey was a WAGR Employee. Bluey died in 2005 and Phyllis in 2010.
