Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Younger of the two brothers (Arthur and Alfred) who served in WWI (older brother Charles served in the Boer War - Farrier Sergeant; Service No:761), Sapper Alfred Victor Prosser (Service No:6375) enlisted with his brother Arthur (Sapper; Service No:6365) in the AIF on 29 November 1915 with 23rd Depot Battalion, and both brothers were attached to 1st Field Coy Engineers on 20 March 1916 when they embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A26 Armadale en route for service on the Western front via Alexandria. Sapper Prosser was attached to 2nd Field Coy Engineers on 23 August 1918 when he was WiA in France (GSW wrist) and evacuated to England. On 4 January 1919, Sapper Prosser embarked for Melbourne on board HT Morvada, and was attached to 2nd Field Coy Engineers at Discharge on 31 August 1919.

Alf was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1892, youngest of thirteen children of Charles Robert Prosser (b1847 in Hackney, England) and Janet (Jessie) Easdale (b1849 in Ayrshire, Scotland). Charles immigrated in 1853, arriving in Melbourne with his parents and siblings on board the Caroline Chisholm, and Jessie arrived in 1954 with her parents and siblings on board the Boomerang. Charles was a Blacksmith in Kilmore in 1868 when he and Jessie married. They lived in Kilmore, Rushworth, Sandridge and Mooroopna before settling in Melbourne in the mid 1880s. Charles worked as a Blacksmith.

Alf was a Motor Driver in Melbourne in 1914 when he initially enlisted in the AIF with 9th Light Horse Regiment and then with Field Coy Engineers in 1915. Following his Discharge, Alf returned to Melbourne, where he worked as a Motor Driver. In the mid 1930s he married Alice Kendall (b1895 in Romsey, Victoria), and the couple lived on Hall's Farm at Noojee via Trafalgar in the Gippsland - Alf was a Labourer - before settling in Melbourne in the late 1930s. Alf worked as a Motor Driver and Labourer, and Alice was a Machinist. Alf died in 1945, and Alice died in 1947.
