Corporal William Gordon Massey (Service No:VX138265) initially enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:V155602) with 12 Australian Advanced Ordnance Depot (AAOD) and enlisted in the AIF 'in the field' in Baronta QLD on 29 April 1943 as a Private. In May 1943 he was a Corporal attached to 14 Australian Advanced Ordnance Depot (AAOD) and served in New Guinea (26 May 1943 - 14 August 19144). Corporal Massey was attached to 14 AAOD at Discharge on 1 February 1946.

Born in 1921 in Melbourne Victoria, Bill was the eldest of two children of Joseph John Massey (b1888 in Corowa, NSW) and his second wife Amy Janet Walsh (b1895 in Violet Town, Victoria). Joseph (a Municipal Gardener) and Amy (a Nurse) married in 1921 in Melbourne, Victoria where they settled and raised their family and Joseph worked as a Municipal Gardener. Joseph had been a Farm Labourer in Junee and Corowa, NSW before moving to Melbourne. He served in WWI and following his Discharge, was hospitalised in Melbourne and worked in QLD as a Cane Cutter. Joseph and Amy settled in Melbourne where they raised their family and Joseph was a Municipal Gardener.

Bill was a Student Teacher when he enlisted in the ACMF in 1941, and following his Discharge in 1946 settled in Melbourne where he was a Teacher before joining the Civil Service as a Clerk in 1949. In 1950 Bill married Jessie Beatrice Challen (b1922 at Herne Hill in the Swan Valley, WA) - Jessie was a Typist and had served in the RAAF in WWII. Bill and Jessie lived in Melbourne where Bill was a Clerk in the Civil Service - Department of the Navy and Department of Civil Aviation - before settling in Albany WA in the mid 1960s. Bill worked as a Civil Servant in Albant WA, where Jessie died in 2006 and Bill in 2014.
