Son of Henry and Anna OAKES, "Dural", Federation Street, Bowen Bridge Road, Brisbane, Queensland
Word has now been received by friends of the late Private Preston Oakes (reported killed in action some few months ago) as to how the brave soldier met his death. He was acting as a stretcher-bearer, conveying away wounded comrades, when he was shot through the heart. Death was instantaneous.
