Walter Gustav Karl Boettcher was born on 1891 June 4th in Hahndorf, South Australia and was raised by his parents, Adolph Gustav Boettcher and Maria Lydia Fechner Boettcher
Before the war, Walter Gustav Karl BOETTCHER was raised by his parents and lived at home with his two brothers, Oswald Bernhardt and his elder brother, Herbert Reinhold Carl. Walter attended Mitcham Public School. Prior to the war he worked as a builder.
Walter enlisted in the Australian Imperial force in 1916, February 21. He departed from Adelaide on May 31st, 1916, serving as a Sapper with the 11th Field Company Engineers' section 2. Walter served in France and Belgium. During his time on the Western Front, he was ill with influenza, trench fever and broncitis and was wounded in action July 1917 and after a few days treatment returned to his unit. He returned to Australa disembarking 26th June 1919 and was discharged 10th August 1919.
He died on August 1st 1915 in Magill and is remembered at North Brighton Cemetery, S.A., Australia. He is honored on Memorials in Mitcham and Renmark.
