DEATH FROM BAYONET WOUND

Word was received in Stawell last evening that Private Charles E Sargentson, of Crowlands Road, Stawell, had died of wounds in France.  A previous wire received by Mrs. Sargentson states that Private Sargentson was seriously ill, suffering from a bayonet wound in the abdomen.  The task of conveying the sad news to the unfortunate widow was assigned to the Rev. C.M. Lowe.

Private Sargentson was 35 years of age and sailed from Australia about six monthe ago.  He was a steady and industrius young man, and prior to enlisting followed dairying and gardening pursuits.  He was generally popular on account of his manly and upright character, and the whole hearted sympathy of Stawellites is extended to the widow and young daughter, who have the consolation of knowing that their late husband and father nobly gave up his life for his country.

Some few weeks ago Private W Sargentson, a brother of the deceased soldier, was also wounded in action.
