Corporal Robert Stafford Vautin (Service No:NX48005) initially served in the Militia (Sergeant; Service No:N1075) with 7th Field Regiment prior to enlisting in the AIF on 22 September 1941. Corporal Vautin was attached to  General Details Depot and 1 Armoured Training Regiment before posting to 2/6th Armoured Regiment on 12 October 1941. Corporal Vautin served in New Guinea (20 October 1942 - 18 May 1943), and was attached to 2/6th Armoured Regiment at Discharge on 13 July 1944.

Bob was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1912, eldest of three children (and only son) of Claude Stafford Vautin (b1885 in Sydney, New South Wales) and Ruth Muriel Molesworth (b1886 in Sydney, New South Wales). Claude - a Commonwealth Public Servant - was a Draftsman with the Western Lands Board when he and Ruth married in 1911 in Sydney. The couple lived in Canberra and Melbourne, before returning to Sydney in the late 1920s - Claude was Chief Draftsman with the Postmaster Generals Department at retirement in 1950.

Bob joined the Public Service on leaving school, and was a Draftsman in Sydney in 1939 when he married his first wife Rosalind Lockhart Spence (b1909 in Sydney, New South Wales) - Rosalind was a Teacher in Sydney. Following Discharge from the Army, Bob and Rosalind settled in Sydney, where they raised their family and Bob was a Public Servant (Draftsman) with the Postmaster General's Department. Rosalind died in 1955, and Bob remarried in 1960 to Lorna Florence Chambers (b1913 in Cobar, New South Wales) - Lorna was a Public Servant (Typist, Telephonist) with the Postmaster Generals Department in Sydney. Bob and Lorna settled in Sydney, where Bob was a Public Servant until retirement. Bob died in 1981 and Lorna in 2002.
