Sapper Mervyn Roy Tychsen (Service Nos:W43055/WX28804) initially served in the ACMF (20 August 1940 - 23 July 1942) - graded Turner with 7 Australian Troops Coy. Sapper Tychsen transferred to the AIF on 24 July 1942 - graded Fitter - and served with 7 Australian Troops Coy in Darwin, Northern Territory (12 July 1943 - 1 December 1944). Sapper Tychsen then served in Bougainville (Torokina) with 15 Field Coy RAE in 1945, and was attached to 7 Australian Troops Coy at Discharge on 17 January 1946.

Born in Perth, Western Australia in 1915, Mervyn was fifth of sixth children of Bruno (Bert) O'Connor Tychsen (b1881 in Hotham, Victoria) and Ada (Louisa) Louise Cribb (b1879 in Melbourne, Victoria). Bert joined VGR as a Lad Labourer with the Locomotive Branch in Melbourne in 1897, and in 1903 was a Train Examiner in Korong Vale. Bert and Louisa married in Melbourne in 1904, and lived in Korong Vale before returning to Melbourne in 1906 - Bert was a Train Examiner and Engine Fitter. In 1911 Bert and Louisa moved their family to Western Australia, settling in Perth, where Bert worked as an Engineer and Newspaper Machinist.

Mervyn started work as a Linotype Mechanic, and was a Printer in Perth in 1940 when he enlisted in the Army. In 1942 in Perth he married Jean Alma Marlow (b1918 in Northam, Western Australia). Following his Dicharge from the Army, Mervyn returned to Perth and worked as a Printer and Barman. Mervyn and Jean divorced in the early 1950s, and Mervyn moved to Victoria, where he worked as a Storeman with the Country Road Boards. Mervyn had been in Tocumwal, New South Wales for two days on 2 January 1959 when he died in the hospital there, and his funeral arrangements were handled by the RSL Sub Branch Tocumwal.
