Corporal Leonard Thomas Stuchbury (Service Nos:W15289/WX16853) enlisted in the ACMF on 13 May 1941 as a Private attached to 122 Reserve Motor Transport Coy - Driver Mechanic. Discharging on 5 October 1941, Private Stuchbury enlisted in the AIF the next day, serving with 2/10 Armoured Regiment. Corporal Stucbury (promoted on 20 March 1943) was attached to 2/10 Armoured Regiment at Discharge on 11 Januray 1945 (Manpowered to Timber Industry).
Len was born in Collie, Western Australia in 1920, eldest of son of Cyril Edmund Houghton Stuchbury (b1885 at Yatala Plains, South Australia) and Kathleen (Polly) Mary Dawson (b1900 in Townsville, QLD). Cyril was a Miner in Collie, served in the AIF in WWI (Private; Service No:721), and was a Miner in Collie in 1920 when he and Polly married in Perth. Cyril and Polly settled in Collie, where they raised their family and Cyril worked as a Miner until the late 1920s. The family lived in Perth and Walpole, where Cyril worked as a Labourer and Telephone Linesman - when he enlisted in the ACMF in 1941, he gave his occupation as Cook.
Len was involved in local sport (competitive wood chopping and boxing) and worked as a Labourer, Truck Driver and Mechanic in Walpole, where in 1940 he married his first wife Florence (Flo) Mabel Eleanor Poland (b1921 in Seymour, Victoria) - Flo was working in Walpole as a Kitchen Hand. Len and Flo were living in Perth in 1941 when Len enlisted in the Army, and following his Discharge, lived in Waroona, New Guinea and Myanup. He and Flo divorced in 1954, and in the early 1960s Len remarried in Perth to Hazel June Staples (nee Murdoch; b1923 in Perth, Western Australia). Len and Hazel lived in Catherine, Northern Territory and Shark Bay, where Len worked as a Contractor and Engineer. In 1976 Hazel was killed when the car driven by Len collided with a truck on the Geraldton Highway. Len died ten days later.
