Trooper Roy Milton Bignell (Service No:WX15110) enlisted in the Australian Army on 17 July 1941. He was attached to 2/10 Australian Armoured Regiment when he was Discharged on 21 November 1945.

Born in 1918 in Geraldton WA, Roy was the youngest of eight children of Elisha (Eli) Bignell (b1871 in Spring Grove, South Australia) and second wife Rachel (Lena) Harriet Maud Jones (b1881 in Bordertown, South Australia). Eli left South Australia for Kalgoorlie WA in 1898 and in 1901 married Lena. Eli and Lena settled at Mt Erin in WA where they raised their family and Eli was a Farmer.

Roy worked as an Assembler in Fremantle WA and in 1941 enlisted in the AIF. In 1944 in Perth he married Dorothy Margaret Hegarty (b1922 in Northam, WA) - Dorothy was a Munitions Worker in Perth. Following his Discharge, Roy and Dorothy settled in Fremantle WA where they raised their family and Roy worked as an Assembler before becoming a Mechanic. Roy died in 1996 and Dorothy in 2011.
