65 years ago today, on the 18th March 1958, Private Frederick William Archer, 62nd Battalion (Reg No-3877), labourer from 5 Rose Street, Annandale, New South Wales, father of two (Maurice, Brian), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 71. ANGLICAN 3-200. 52.

Born at Grafton, New South Wales on the 4th March 1887 to William and Emily Archer; husband of Adelene M Archer nee MacCarthy or McCarthy (married 1923, Sydney, N.S.W., died 1969, sleeping here), Frederick enlisted on the 12th August 1915 with the 1st Battalion at Holsworthy, N.S.W.

Admitted to hospital 30.1.1916 (lumbago), 5.6.1916 (rheumatism, influenza), 14.7.1916 (ulcer right leg).
Wounded in action - 5.11.1916 (SW left thigh and left arm, slight, but painful).

Frederick was invalided home on the 24th October 1917, being discharged on the 21st November 1917.
Nothing located on Trove regarding enlistment, wounding, returning home, etc.

Mr. Archer’s name has been inscribed on the Former Annandale Council WW1 Roll of Honour and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

Service record states DIED, 16.3.1958. 

I have placed poppies at Frederick’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
