Sergeant Thomas Lewis Oliver Roberts (Service No:V275412) served in the ACMF (enlisting as a Private, promoted to Corporal in 1944 and Sergeant in 1945) with 2 Australian Base Ordnance Depot from 26 February 1942 to 11 February 1946. Older brothers Oliver and Alf also served in the ACMF in WWII.
Tom was born in Mulwala, New South Wales in 1909, youngest of four children of Oliver David Roberts (b1860 in Creswick, Victoria) and Annie Hinde (b1872 in Balranald, New South Wales). Oliver and Annie married in Melbourne in 1902, and lived at Mulwala and in Melbourne, where Oliver was a Tobacconist and Farmer - in the 1880s Oliver was a Member (and Bandmaster) of the Yarrawonga Brass Band.
Tom started work in Mulwala as a Farm Hand and Tobacco Farmer, and was a succesful professional sprint runner. By 1936 he had moved to Melbourne, and was a Salesman for Craig Williamsons Department Store in 1939 when he married Lillian Evelyn Weaver (b1916 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Lillian took her Aunt's surname of Taylor when she was adopted following her father's death in 1921. Tom and Evelyn settled in Melbourne, where they raised their family and Tom was a Salesman. In the early 1970s the couple retired to Geelong, where Tom died in 1979 and Evelyn in 1984.
