DEATH OF PRIVATE G. E.
FULCHER.
That Maryborough boys have shared in the glorious victories that were recently achieved by the Australians in the late fighting is more than probable. Conclusive proof in fact is now coming to hand in the sad price our district has been called upon to pay. The relations of Private Erie Fulcher, a well known young farmer of the Pialba district were on Monday advisedd that he had died of gun shot wounds in France on 22nd September. The late Private Fulcher was well-known in our town and district. He was the only son of Mr. Fulcher for many years head master of Yengarie State School, and later of Tinana School, but who has since been transferred north. Private Fulcher spent his school days at Yengarie, and later attended the Maryborough Grammar School. Wishing to follow farming pursuits he studied for and was awarded a scholarship at the Gatton Agricultural College. Some few years ago he settled on a farm in the Pialba district, close to the seaside suburb and a short distance from the railway line. He was married to a Miss Johnson of Torquay, about two and a half years ago. Deceased, who was 27 years of age, is survived by a young widow and son, his parents, and two sisters. The late Private Fulcher was well-known in sporting circles, particularly as a footballer.
Our Pialba Correspondent writes :-
'The sad news that Private G.F.. Fulcher had been killed in action in France reached us on Monday and caused a great shock to all his relatives and friends. He had only returned to the trenches after recovery from a previous wound, and he must have been killed almost immediately on his return. It is barely eleven months since' Private Fulcher enlisted. He leaves a wife and one child, to whom great sympathy will be extended in this great and sudden bereavement. Private Fulcher was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Fulcher, formerly at Tinana State School, and now at Hughendon.
